Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator
BMI Calculator is a very useful tool to directly find your BMI. BMI stands for ‘Body to Mass Index’ and it is the function of weight and height. It’s origin dates back to 19th century and till 1972 it was known as Quetelet Index. In 1972, scientists realized that this is the best way to represent amount of fats in the body. Mathematically speaking, it is the ‘ratio of body mass’ divided by the ‘square of individual’s height’. It’s mathematical value classify the individual’s physique i.e. slim, average or obese. Standard BMI value range is as under.
Underweight – BMI < 18.5
Normal Weight – 18.5 < BMI < 24.9
Over Weight – 25 < BMI < 25.9
Obesity – BMI > 30
If you get any abnormal value e.g. 204, 530, 5000 then there is something wrong with your data input. Don’t consider it your BMI. Read the proper procedure mentioned below to correct the error.

How to use the BMI Calculator
In order to get the correct result, you need to enter your data in a proper manner. Your body weight and your exact height is required for calculation. There are two types of units which you can use which are pounds and inches or cm and Kgs. Cm and Kgs are also known as metric units.
If you enter your weight in pounds then enter your height in inches (multiply feet with 12 to get the inches and then add the extra inches e.g. 5ft 11 inches means 5×12=60 + 11 inches=71 inches). After entering your values in pounds and inches, make sure you select ‘NO’ in the option to use Metric system.
